New England – part 1
New England (Intro)
In April, I spent three weeks in New England. It’s my girlfriend’s homeland, and she’s in constant love with it. Except for two pretty short visits to Boston I had never really seen this part of the U.S. On this past trip, I was finally able to correct that. Except for the state of Connecticut I’ve gone to all of them: Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont and Maine. I haven’t decided yet which one I like best, but I’d definitely come back to all five.
Riga, Latvia – Day 1
From March 17th to March 21st I went on a trip to Riga, Latvia. More precisely, I went on an educational leave. This meant that our group – a group of Referendare (little lawyers doing their legal clerkship) – had to plan two activities for each day of the trip, one of “cultural” nature, the other one “legal.” The setting might sound sort of constricted – no drifting – but we were eager to extend the cultural activities at our own discretion, and it turned out to be a great trip.

Traveling Europe
So. Schon drei Monate rum dieses Jahr ohne einen einzigen Beitrag. Dass ich nicht zum schreiben gekommen bin, lag neben allgemeinem Inspirationsmangel u.a. auch daran, dass ich viel unterwegs war. Zum Glück gibts also genug Stoff zum Nachbereiten, mit viel buntem Bildmaterial und möglichst wenig Text. Vielleicht ist das eine oder andere Motiv dem einen oder anderen geläufig:

In the mid-June of this year, Aurel and I headed to Louisville, KY, for some live music and fun in the bluegrass state. Aurel had sneakily bought tickets to see the Arctic Monkeys and White Denim months beforehand, and surprised me with them about six weeks prior to the event.

Im zweiten Live-Musik-Update dieses Jahres gibt es wieder eine Menge zu berichten. In den letzten drei Monaten war ich bei einer ganzen Reihe verdammt guter Konzerte. Aber wie gehabt werde ich mich hier auf drei besondere beschränken. Das heißt es gibt hier nichts zu lesen über Peter Walker live im Blue Room von Third Man Records, nichts über The Kills im großartigen Cannery Ballroom, nichts über Spoon und Blank Range, die ich im Mai im Marathon Music Works gesehen habe, und auch nichts über St. Paul and the Broken Bones, die einen Monat später dort gespielt haben.
